SHOP THE POST

Happy first day of summer! I can't believe today marks the first day of summer. We've been experiencing higher than normal temperatures here in San Diego. It's been so hot that a heat wave warning was issued this week due to the abnormally high summer heat. I'm loving every minute of this warm weather. I love everything associated with summer from warmer weather to hitting the beach and celebrating my oldest son's birthday. He  just turned 6 earlier this month and we also celebrated my birthday and one year anniversary of my blog which you can read in this post hereI've rounded up my top 5 favorite things to do for summer with my family that I love.

1. Beach Day
One of my favorite things to do with my family in the summer is head to the beach. Being a San Diego native, I am very lucky to have grown up and be surrounded by so many different & beautiful beaches. I still remember my parents taking us to the beach when I was a child. My favorite part about going to the beach as a child was building sandcastles and playing in the water. One of my favorite beaches in San Diego is Coronado because not only is the beach and sand beautiful, but the ambience of the Hotel Del is spectacular. We always feel like we are on vacation when we are there. There are so many cute shops and restaurants to explore. You can read about my 10 top places to see in San Diego in this post here. We actually took these pictures for my son's 6th birthday and we had such a blast shooting here. It is also such a great family oriented resort.

2. Theme Park/Amusement Parks
Another one of our favorite things to do as a family in the summer is theme parks. We are a family that love theme parks. One of our favorite vacation spot is Disney World which you can read more about on this post here. Since we have annual passes to Sea World, LegoLand and Legoland Water Park we will definitely be there all summer. Since I'm all about saving money, I strongly suggest in investing in annual passes to your favorite theme parks. We definitely save so much money by purchasing an annual pass since we go all the time. One of our favorite theme parks for the summer is the Del Mar Fair which is held annually in Del Mar Fair. You can read more about the Del Mar fair here. I love indulging in the fried junk food and the kids love watching the shows, seeing the animals, and the carnival rides. You only live once right? I highly recommend checking it out if you are visiting San Diego this summer.

3.  Staycation
Family staycations are definitely becoming a trend for summer and I think its such a great way to save money and still have fun. One of our favorite staycation is at Paradise Point which you can read more about here. The kids love playing in the pool and I love that the hotel offer amenities and restaurants on the property are kid friendly and easily accessible. Another one of our favorite staycation spot is in Palm Desert. We actually went there to celebrate my birthday this year. I am currently working on that post and can't wait to share it with you. We are hoping to take the kids this summer.

4. Summer Reading Fun
Finding a great book and sitting on the beach is the best way to spend summer. Now that I have kids, it is harder to do but I am a hopeless romantic and love reading romance novels. I find that the only time I have to do this is curled up in my bed when my kids are asleep. I continue to share my love & passion for reading with my kids. I love that a good book can take your mind and a quick escape from reality. Every summer we sign up at our local library for their summer reading program which offers fun and free incentives for kids. This definitely holds dear to my heart especially with my background as a reading teacher. I hope to instill life long learners in my own children and I can't wait to see their excitement when they open a book. I'm so thankful that my parents encourage us to read and took us to the library to expand our horizons. "Reading a good book is like taking a journey..."

5. Enjoy the outdoors
Since living in Arizona, I've learned to really enjoy and take advantage of being outdoors. I'm so lucky to call San Diego my home and the weather is absolutely beautiful all year round. The best thing to do this summer is enjoy being outdoors especially if you live in places where the winters are brutal or the summers are too hot. One of our favorite activity to do is playing in the sand. I've learned being a mom of boys especially that it is okay to get dirty, because life is more fun that way. I encourage you to do something outside of your norm and enjoy being outside and exploring your own city. It's amazing what things you can find.

I hope you found this post helpful and helped inspired you to try new things! Step out of your comfort zone and go explore! Thanks for stopping by!
