Q & A with Melissa

* How did you get started on YouTube?
I kept getting asked by friends and followers on my social media for makeup tips and tricks every time I posted something beauty related. After a few years of this, I finally worked up the courage to start a channel!

* How long do you take to get ready in the morning?
* On average, it usually takes me 30 mins to get ready. About 25 mins of makeup for an everyday look and 5 mins to throw my hair up in a messy bun or pin my bangs back. I don't get too glamorous for work and I love to sleep in as much as possible lol!

* What product do you never leave home without?
* Lipstick!!!!!

* What is your favorite brand of makeup and why?
* Oh boy, that's a tough one because I love so many brands for different reasons! If I had to narrow it down to one, I would say Too Faced! I love ALL of the products I've ever tried from them!

* Who taught you to put on makeup?
* I honestly taught myself by watching tutorials on YouTube! No, seriously!

* What online makeup store is your favorite?
* Ulta. Hands down!

* What products are you hoping to buy next?
* I have several currently on my wish list, but my top 3 would be 1) Kylie Lip Kit in shade "Spice", 2) Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation, & 3) Sigma Beauty Ethereal Light Lipglosses

* Who is your favorite beauty guru on youtube?
* It's so hard to say because I have several that are all so amazing! I guess I'd have to go with the one who I most admire for their great product reviews and serious makeup skills, and that would be Amy Macedo!

* What is your daily skin care routine?
* I usually use the facial exfoliant Apricot Scrub from St. Ives every other day when I shower, alternating with plain water on the days I don't exfoliate.  At night to take off my makeup I use Dove bar soap to cleanse - random I know, but it seriously takes everything off! (I use coconut oil to remove waterproof products.) I moisturize with the Neutrogena hydro boost water gel morning and evening.

* What are 3 beauty products you can’t live
without and why?
* 1) moisturizer/lip balm - because I get really dry skin if I skip moisturizing!
* 2) lipstick - anyone who knows me knows I rarely go a day without some kind of lippie! I feel naked without color on my lips lol!
* 3) concealer - I get blemishes fairly often and I would die without my concealer to cover them and my under eye darkness lol!

* What is advice do you have for makeup for beginners?
* Practice practice practice......and patience!!!!! It took me years to get from my first attempt at winged liner to the full face of makeup I wear nowadays! Start with the basics and repeat them until you've mastered each technique! Then slowly add more and more new techniques until you feel comfortable with them! Before you know it, you'll be a total pro!

* 11. What is your go to look and why?
* Honestly I don't wear a ton of makeup all the time because it's a lot of effort lol! Don't get me wrong, I love getting glam to the max, but my go to look would be a quick layer of medium coverage foundation, naturally filled brows, winged eyeliner, a few coats of mascara, a bit of blush, and then lipstick! It might sound like a process, but I can throw it on my face quickly and I still feel done up without much effort!

* 12. What is your favorite holiday look?
* Gold eyeshadow paired with bold red lips!

* 13. Which celebrities do you look to for style inspiration?
* I'm always drawn to Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Kim Kardashian for their beautiful makeup looks!

* 14. What are your go-to lip products?
* When I don't want to overthink it, I usually go for a nude lip - my current fave is from Trust Fund Beauty - their liquid lipstick in "k, bye", or I'll go for a dusty rose shade like Kylie cosmetics Lip Kit in "Kristen."

* 15. How do you find a foundation that is just right for your skin tone?
* Google "how to find your skin's undertone" and take a test to see if you have "yellow", "neutral", or "pink" undertones. From there, go into a Sephora or a Ulta to sample and test out different foundations based on your skin's undertone and pigmentation. Test along your jaw and you know you've found your perfect shade when it disappears into the shade of your skin!

A big and special thanks to Melissa for taking the time to film and answer all the questions on this post! Make sure to follow her on Instagram & YouTube channel @mixandmatchmel
